While this Inorganic Pigment Yellow 184 (Bismuth Vanadate) offers decent weatherability, it poses severe processing challenges for ink and industrial coating formulations due to its exceptionally high specific gravity. This extreme density leads to rapid sedimentation, creating hard, non-redispersible cakes at the bottom of containers (“hard settling”) if the anti-settling rheology is not perfectly tuned. Compared to organic alternatives, it suffers from low tinting strength, necessitating high loading levels to achieve opacity; this not only drastically inflates formulation costs but can also compromise film gloss and flexibility due to high pigment volume concentration (PVC). Furthermore, its abrasive nature accelerates wear on dispersion equipment, and excessive shear can dull its chroma.
