While Pigment Yellow 2 (Fast Yellow G) is a legacy monoazo pigment prized in water-based ink systems for its cost-efficiency and reddish-yellow shade with good flow properties, it represents an entry-level standard with severe durability limitations. Its performance is critically hampered by poor solvent resistance and inferior lightfastness, particularly in tint or pastel shades where UV degradation is rapid and severe. Even within water-based formulations, sensitivity to co-solvents (like alcohols or glycols) can trigger significant bleeding and recrystallization, causing viscosity spikes and hue shifts. Consequently, it is functionally obsolete for high-end packaging or outdoor applications, being restricted strictly to low-cost, short-life prints such as corrugated board and stationery where archival quality is irrelevant.
