This commodity grade of Pigment Yellow 14 (Permanent Yellow 5GF) is a basic diarylide pigment that, despite high initial color strength, suffers from critically poor lightfastness, leading to rapid fading and degradation in solvent-based ink prints, making it wholly unsuitable for outdoor applications. Crucially, it exhibits severe structural instability in strong solvent systems (such as esters or ketones); this susceptibility drives recrystallization and particle growth during storage, causing drastic viscosity spikes and irreversible ink gelation. Furthermore, its weak solvent resistance frequently results in bleeding and migration defects during lamination or overvarnishing processes.
